Goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz sent us back to the top of the Premier League table as we clinched a dominant win over Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Seagulls had proven to be tricky opponents on their visits to north London down the years, but this was a game that we dominated throughout and were eventually rewarded with a fair scoreline.
Jesus headed in on 53 minutes following a corner, while it would take until 87 minutes for us to make certain of the points when Havertz scampered clear and blasted into the net in front of the North Bank.
The opening half was one we bossed, restricting our opponents to no shots on goal throughout and just two touches in our box, but we couldn’t quite find a way to break the deadlock at the other end despite creating plenty of chances.
We controlled the early stages, with Bukayo Saka shooting straight at Bart Verbruggen before Martin Odegaard fizzed a trademark shot from the edge of the area just wide. Jesus then had a couple of attempts in quick succession, before his compatriot Gabriel was picked out at the back post by Gabriel Martinelli but his header was straight at Brighton’s keeper.
A golden chance then went begging just past the half-hour mark when a delightful pass by Odegaard allowed Saka to escape behind the Seagulls’ backline, and drawing out Verbruggen he cut the ball back to Martinelli. The Brazilian looked set to give us the lead, but he fired his first-time effort over.
That was the best opportunity and piece of play in a scrappy half, but it still nearly had a happy conclusion for the Gunners when Odegaard once again picked a pass out to Saka with space to run into, and after he edged into the box he unleashed a fierce effort which flashed into the Clock End.
Mikel Arteta would have been wondering just how his players hadn’t brought the lead into the changing rooms at the break, but we eventually made our dominance count when we edged in front after 53 minutes.
Having continued to apply pressure on the visitors from the kick-off, we won a corner which Saka whipped into the box, and Jan Paul van Hecke flicked it past his own keeper towards the back post, where Jesus was lurking to nod it into the net and finally give the home crowd something to cheer.
It would take Brighton 61 minutes to register a shot, which came when Jack Hinshelwood headed straight at David Raya despite being well-placed to convert a Pascal Gross cross, but that would be the exception to the rule as we continued to carve out chances to double our lead.
Odegaard came close on 73 minutes when he tricked his way into the area and managed to create the yard of space he required to get a shot away but Verbruggen managed to claw it away from the top corner, and then moments later Martinelli put a teasing cross into the box that Havertz headed over from eight yards out.
Despite our dominance, it was still a fragile advantage and that was evident with eight minutes left when on a rare foray forward, Kaoru Mitoma centred for Gross who stabbed an effort into the side-netting from a good position.
There was to be another goal in the game, and fortunately it came for us. Brighton had been given a warning moments before when Declan Rice raced 50 yards down the field after escaping the offside trap but Verbruggen saved with his legs, but on 87 minutes a nice through-ball by Eddie Nketiah sent Havertz in on goal, and he drilled the ball home to seal the points.
Emile Smith Rowe nearly put the icing on the cake when he connected with a Leandro Trossard pass. Verbruggen was once again equal to it but the victory saw us extend our unbeaten home run to 13 matches, and move us to the Premier League summit ahead of Liverpool’s game with Manchester United later in the afternoon.

😄😄😄😄
Premier League is miles ahead of any other league in the world.
If you know you know.
🏴
Ødegaard is the most important player in Arsenal.
He creates great opportunities to score goals with his great passes to his attackers.
Make Saka a better player.
A good player always has time for himself, which he always has, even with many players around him. He is an artist on the field. With such players, football is wonderful to watch.😉
🤣🤣🤣🤣
when you make right transfer decisions you get rewards. well done Gunners. We as Chelsea have done the opposite, signed some horrible players and let gems go
Arsenal,Omg Great Match,Good Goal..👏👏☺️👍
❤❤
Odegaard NEED to use his right leg more, that chances is the same that he force to dribble to the left side so he can use left leg.
Fabulous performance by the boys everyone was splendid keep it up
Yeah finally Arsenal are starting to learn how to make good use of every opportunity hope they display the same performance against Porto in their RO 16 playoffs in Lisbon
Lucky shot golie almost catch IT
Martin Ødegaard, you are so brilliant genius, i've never seen player like this.
Congratulations👏, Hi from Moscow 🇷🇺
Odegaard too many chances missed
Arsenal need a clinical striker. with those many chances and just 2 goals is not a good stat.
Not need arsenal vdo always always something wrong each time I don’t you vdo
The reporting is unfair. How come Paul van Hecke wasn't credited with an assist?
So happy to see Kai is regaining his confidence. His effort really pays off.
My two favorite players score a goal in this game
Trossard is so underrated
He such a game changer
ok
Havertz Is Getting Better 👍
Okk
Havertz has been so disrespected by the stupid media. dude is highly talented and was at one point one of the only dudes scoring for chelsea. even in fifa bro does work lol.
Bien por el fútbol porque es un placer verlo jugar, tiene una clase tremenda saludos Gunners
GREAT DOMINANCE
I knew it was just a matter of time before the Havertz we all knew would be back Prolific form
To Big/Top/Elite Like Manchester United FC, BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION FC better Rebranding the name to EAST SUSSEX UNITED FC.😅
Premier league shurely is an exciting league but the more games I'm watching , the more I'm realizing that in top games, ther's almost always one of the two teams that takes such control of the game that the other doesn't even exist anymore like in this match or the Villa-City game or the City-Arsenal games last season.
Wich unfortunately takes out a lot of the entertainement.
Best games are disputed one like the Napoli-Madrid ones this year or the Barcelona-Inter from last year.
Let's goo
Against Brighton
It was crazy. Just 1short on target
Kai's goal looks offside to me
As a Citeh fan, I would rather see Arsenal win the league, rather than Liverpool. That's of course if my team can't win it. I honestly don't dislike a single player from Arsenal. Arteta gets on my nervous sometimes, how he reacts & jumps. As for Liverpool, I can't stand the club & especially some of their players & fans.
Arsenal has got a talented squad and they have to be more clinical, but thank God the Gunners winning the match 🙏. COYG to beat Liverpool God willing. Arsenal rocks 🏆 🙏 🤲 🪨 🎸 😎.
Happy birthday our Captain
Rice is the goat of cdm
Declan Rice is the difference maker in this team!
But. Kai have many goal this season than martineli
Happy fro Havertz
Kai 😃😮🎉 and Jesus 👏 😘 made it 👍
Havertz will be top goalscorer for our team this season.
What a pass from odegaard
I could not stop crying seeing Havertz score match after match after a spell of critics and hate from certain fans.
King Kai🔥
But Odegard's shooting accuracy was poor.
That outer foot cick from the captain😁
Havertz is a machine, this man never stopped running in the whole game.
Havertz or not we need a decent striker next January, the teams left in UCL aren't Brighton. wit
h due respect to them and surely they are hard to beat let alone leaving a player roaming freely next to the penalty area
