  1. More BS from Balague. Premier League is successful because it's competitive. If garbage 1 or 2 horse races of Serie A and Liga make their leagues competitive, they will get more rights money. Jamie is absolutely right.

  2. There's no point in asking anyone like Jamie Carragher who is a fan of the Premier League first and foremost what they think about the idea of trying to reign in the EPL's spending??? If I was an EPL fan, I would react the same way he did here. Which is why the only chance for the rest of Europe to stop themselves from becoming nothing more than farm leagues for the EPL is the European Football League / European Super League.

  3. The premier league dominance is due to its inherent advantages, which sadly I don’t think can be overcome by the other leagues.

    1. The language – English is the lingua Franca of the world.

    2. English football culture – The rivalries in the EPL are long and storied , and more well known globally. Derbies like the NLD , Manchester Derby, Chelsea Vs Any of the big London teams. They all draw views and there are more of these ‘big games’ than in any other European league.

    3. The income distribution – The EPL has the most even distribution in Europe. This means the competitiveness is better than the other leagues. Bayern might loose the odd game to a relegation side but they won’t ever finish below 2nd/3rd. While Liverpool , Chelsea, United, arsenal etc have all finished outside the top 4 at least once in the past 10 years.

    4. Marketing – Not only is it advertised everywhere, the EPL has a huge social media content environment. Look at the amount engagement on Twitter during live EPL games. Sure Madrid or Barca also do have it, but the engagement for the average EPL far surpasses that of any other league. Also the amount of content creators on YouTube , twitch etc. The user base for FPL. The premier league is miles ahead.

This is not a cycle. This is just the way it is moving forward.

  4. I genuinely hate the way they talk about the English clubs. The answer was no, resoundingly. Do it without English teams, see how you get on.

Personally I only really watch the English leagues. Couldn’t give a shit about national team, or any other football tbh.

  5. It's interesting. I see the premier league becoming the super league. Just like what the NBA and NFL does. They will buy up all the talent, rely on rich owners and get all the big business deals which ultimately could mean only premier league teams would compete to win the Champions league.
If things progress like this, the premier league would be the super league.

  6. Tebas is jealous that the Premier league found a better way of distributing wealth equally, they decided to focus on two of their clubs and someone else beat them at their game and now they don’t like it,I am so happy that premier league teams are now taking players on the market that both Madrid and Barca want as they did the same for so long

  7. Why do these Spanish people cry all the time? It's not enough that madrid and barcelona are a team of divers and cry babies. That behavior has trickled down to their journalists too

  8. Carra is spot on. Why should the PL help other European leagues in any shape of form. In the 80's Italy was the place with the money 90's Spain was the league. Ans the likes of Madrid Barca Milan clubs and Juve didn't care about our league. In fact English football was a joke to them. Now that the PL have got their eggs in order and become a Super League in its own right. So those other league should go and sort themselves out. And as Jamie said start with your own league

  9. Try to improve yourself rather than ask other people to slow down. Real and Barca just been greedy pigs for too long and that screwed their league.

  10. surely the super league is the opposite of a solution because its just creates a situation like the prem where the biggest clubs in the world generate astronomically more than anyone else and therefore no one else can financially compete with them

  11. So here's a question if those are the biggest spenders why is it that MAN CITY gets all the flack for being oil money spenders with the biggest pockets and yet that's not the case?

  12. I have no pity for Madrid, Barca or any of the top Serie A teams.
Madrid had no problem when they were the richest club in football…
Coming in for all the top talents in the premier league season after season so it’s funny how this clown now mentions the premier league taking all the best talent.
Madrid been winning champions league titles for fun the last couple years and so was Barca not too long ago so this has nothing to do with talent.
Their problem is the product they’re selling!
Nobody cares to watch a league of 2 teams. Always the same two winners. Kinda funny how he mentions “fair playing field “ when half the tv rights money goes to just 2 teams.
They need to work on their product before thinking bout super league or anything else.
Work on the blatant racism in Spanish league and Italian league, it’s not just European watching and none whites aren’t gonna support or pay to watch that crap

  13. Jamie is dead right. Real and Barcelona were happy to have the monopoly in Spain while the rest struggled, which meant the league struggled. They were happy once ronaldo and Messi were scoring hatricks every week

  14. This conversation reminds me of that Game of Thrones episode, Battle Of The Bastards, where Jon Snow before war begins offers Ramsey Bolton an one on one fight before the battle to resolve the war and Ramsey flatly refuses. But Ramsey knows he is about to lose the war he suddenly wants to accept the offer of one on one combat out of desperation. Real and Barcelona financially doped for two decades and now English teams are organically getting richer than team, the Spanish are claiming this is unfair 😂 the hypocrisy is astounding.

  15. All this is about the big boys crying for years the best and biggest teams in England and Europe signed all the best players managers from smaller teams and now they have seen city become what they have become and may have another on the hands with my club NUFC and they don’t like it always said ffp is bullshit as long as the owners prove they have the funds to me it’s up to them how much they spend on players and facilities for there clubs ffp is just all about keeping the traditional top clubs at the top

  16. Yes chelsea, city and psg are financially doped and something needs to be done about it. That is different though to the prem being the most popular league. It's the most popular for a number of reasons. Time of matches. English speaking. More competitive. Sold better.

  17. continental european league complaining about the epl is like women complaining about the most attractive woman in the room getting all of the men's attention

  18. The Premier League is now being rewarded for their better business strategy. Since the mid1990s the Premier League has been the richest league in terms of the biggest tv contract in football. They could have easily done a Real and Barcelona tactic and give two teams 68% of the total league TV money and give them unnatural false wealth to cherry pick the best players with inflated salaries and transfer fees or done a Bayern Munich and allow one team to cherry pick all the best players from the league and create a league all star team. Short-term thinking like this would have led to far more champions league winners for England, but the Premier League had a long term strategy and said they would share the TV money sacrificing financial dominance of Europe by the big teams to create a domestic league that was competitive and TV money and prize money was meritocratic. So this is what attracts Billionaires to English clubs because they are less of a financial risk because English teams have such high revenue and and they know success will be rewarded with huge revenues. If Brighton finishes higher than Chelsea they will earn more money than them, this is not the case in La Liga, which is why they don’t invest in smaller clubs in Spain because they guarantee Real and Barcelona over 50% of the tv money regardless of their performance. Plus cut the crap about owners pumping money into English teams. FFP of the Premier League and UEFA stops owners just spending their own money on the team. English teams just have higher revenues due to higher TV money, ticket revenues and bigger sponsorship deals. This means English teams can spend more. Take Newcastle for instance. Their Saudi owners haven’t spent a penny since owning the club because Newcastle had a surplus of 250 million in the bank because their previous owner didn’t spend and had additional sponsorship revenue of 180 million because the previous owner used to make the sponsors of the club his own companies for free. So Newcastle had over 400 million revenue without a penny from their owners. People seem to forget when English teams were banned from Europe, Italian teams dominated in their absence because Serie A was the first league to have billionaire owners pumping their teams with personal cash to buy the best players and this was not sustainable because when the Italian economy collapsed these billionaires had less spare cash to spend on football teams and Serie A became poor. Bayern Munich’s strategy was wrong to target the best players of their closest German rival making their league the most predictable and boring in Europe. There are consequences for this bad decision the international rights for the Bundesliga shrinking by 50% meaning Bayern have less money to spend than previous years. Real Madrid and Barcelona are the most scared about English English domination of the Champions League, which is why the biggest complaints about the Premier League have come from Spain. They sacrificed the competitive balance of La Liga to pump up Real and Barcelona financially to dominate Europe. Their brand is so linked to Champions League, that if the more popular Premier League dominate, their brand becomes worthless to sponsors and La Liga TV contract dramatically declines in value and this could bankrupt both Real Madrid and Barcelona with the high wages they offer players. And this is their big motivation for a super league, because they see this as inevitable and feel it will save them financially.

  19. The esl would kill domestic leagues. At the moment the prem is 5 leagues in one. You have the title race, the cl place race, the europa race, the conference race and the bsttle to avoid relegation. Every team has something to play for.

If the esl is 5 divisions with promotion and relegation. None of the big teams will be out of it. So if they look like missing out on the title in their domestic league then they will concentrate on the els position. The domestic leagues will basically become the league cup for teams.

  20. Why stop it? In european competition the clubs are competitive. In the premier league the cluvs are competitive. The only problem is in france, germany, spain, greece the leagues are not competitive. So the problem lies in those leagues not the premier league. Make them more competitive then people (including from their own countries) might be willing to pay more to watch them.

  21. This is why the pyramid is so important. Money filters through and makes all the leagues competitive, that's why English football is the best .. even non league players are being paid 4 figure a week salaries.

  22. Load of shit, ballbagague is purely jealous of our league, we have the best most competitive league in the world.
Such a hypocrite, like Jamie says, was more than happy for Madrid and Barca to cherry pick best talent in Europe ten to twenty years ago!
And in any case they’re still winning the champs league.
Basically their league is as competitive as the French farmers league.
Sort your own league out before criticising ours.

  23. Lets say the European Super League is formed with the exception that no English team is allowed to participate. I can guarantee you that the EPL would still overpower the ESL and the ones trying to cry and blame EPL would still do the same. Even when RM and Barca dominated Europe from 2010 – 20 the EPL was still the most popular league and it will stay that way regardless of anything.

  24. The European clubs have been begging Liverpool to join a super league since the 70,s

England has a much larger game going fan base than the rest of Europe, which has always meant more professionalism , hence why England Ruled until banned from Europe

Then the Italians went into huge debt to try and draw an audience to the Italian League , which worked but the football is slow technical and boring, so despite the stars signed the return on investment(ROI) did not materialise

Then the Spanish Giants went the same way , they created the Galactico's to draw attention and both big Spanish teams went into huge debt to try and succeed where the Italian's had failed and it kind of worked as all roads led to Spain, but again the ROI did not happen, they didn't make enough, and only the fact that most South Americans speak Spanish meant that the desire for the best players to play in Spain , was a big reason for Spain to hold the flame of defiance for so long, but this has been nullified as African and Asia players do not give this natural advantage to Spain, And I believe most African players get less abuse in England than in Europe, The 3 best African Players all played for Liverpool Mane, Salah, Keita including stick it in the net Minimino from Japan

Germany had a big debate and decided to not attempt to go into debt and kept Football on a slower growth but sustainable forever

When the money men took over England,

1 all they had to do was FIX it so Liverpool didn't win the league , 3 penalties not given to Liverpool and 3 Given for nothing to MU meant a 24 point advantage to Man Utd

this created the the most competitive league in the world, Which drew a big audience as the narrative was how long could MU stop Liverpool , then could MU catch Liverpool 7-18 , then could they actually overtake Liverpool , This was the big draw the big FIX , Arsenal was also prevented from Winning the Premier league as that was boring Arsenal was the 2nd most titles, before the Premier started to Fix it in favour of MU

Its always made me laugh watching MU players dive in Europe and seeing their disbelief when the penalty is not given , just happen with the Barca game so funny

And why Liverpool are more successful in Europe in the same period MU had the Premier league handed to them on a platter

2 The English fan demands blood and guts not Technical ability, which has always meant the bigger players have a chance against the little technical players , again made the games more exciting to watch

So we have finally reached the inevitable

English Football rules and will rule

Now the CL will become boring as England will win it most times and that is probably meaning Liverpool , unless they Fix the Refs in Europe as Anti Liverpool as well

Fifa is appearing as well, wanting some of that English magic

To summarise England generates more money to pay the managers and players, always has, unless someone goes into massive debt to try and compete

And strangely England looks like the least racially abusive stadiums to play in as well

  25. Football would be so much better if UEFA controlled the entirety of european club football and imposed profit sharing and flat salary and spending caps across the board so no one league could outspend any other and therefore success in would be depending upon good youth development and clever signings not outspending everyone else. This situation would be beneficial for all leagues in europe as all leagues would be more competitive and UEFA competitions would be more competitive and the rising tide would lift all boats, it would also allow the likes of Ajax, Feyenoord, Benfica, Porto, Anderlecht, Brugge, Celtic, Gothenberg,Malmo, Dinamo Kiev and other great clubs from smaller leagues to compete like they used to in european competition .

It is no accomplishment to win in football anymore as the teams who win should win as they have much more resources and spend more than the tams they compete against.

  26. Real Madrid and Barca just wants to destroy premier League and It's dominance….They just can't bear Nottingham forest spending 200 million and madrid and barca barely 100 million
