OFFICIAL SIGNING: Man Utd board and Ten Hag ready to make big transfer decision

Man Utd board and Ten Hag ready to make big transfer decision

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag and the club’s hierarchy are set to “decide together” on how to approach their striker situation, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new striker, especially with Cristiano Ronaldo’s future in serious doubt, and Romano reckons the hierarchy at Old Trafford are expected to make a joint decision.

With Ronaldo expressing his desire to leave the club earlier this month, United’s striker situation has become even more precarious.

The Portugal international is set to meet with the club to discuss his future after returning to the UK on Monday having being left out of the pre-season tour of the Asia and Australia due to personal reasons.

Regardless of whether Ronaldo ends up committing his future to United, the Red Devils are still short in the forward areas, with Anthony Martial starting each of the club’s four pre-season games.

And Romano reckons that Ten Hag and the board will sit down and discuss the next steps into bringing in a striker before September’s deadline day.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Ten Hag and the board are deciding together, they are waiting for Ronaldo’s situation, but they want to sign a striker.”

Having missed out on signing Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca, who’s heading to London ahead of a proposed move to West Ham, United will have to move onto other targets.

According to the Express, Lille frontman Jonathan David is an option for the Red Devils, with Romano suggesting that the Canada international could be available for £42m. David has caught the eye with 32 goals in 97 games for the French outfit since signing from Gent two years ago.

Brentford star Ivan Toney has also emerged as a shock target, with the Mirror reporting that United are ‘keeping tabs’ on the English striker, who scored 12 goals in his debut top-flight season for the Bees.

Romano also stated that the Old Trafford side are ‘well informed‘ on Salzburg youngster Benjamin Sesko, who scored 10 goals and laid on seven assists in his first full season for the Austrian outfit, although his lack of experience would surely see him arrive as nothing more than a squad player.
