Your stroke must control the path of the putter as well as its face
alignment when it hits the ball and continues on past the ball.
The putter head must follow through to maintain acceleration through
the ball and continue along the chosen path.
The putter must be allowed to swing naturally using its own weight.
If you have all these aspect in your put, you are well on the way
to developing a fluid putting stroke.
The aspect of your putting that has huge influence on all of the
above is the strength of your putting grip.
So, you will have to experiment with different grip strengths to
determine what is comfortable for you and allows you to do all of
the above.
Everyone is different and it is impossible to tell you
more than this.
As long as you are aware of the goals, it will not
be difficult to work towards your perfect grip strength.
Having worked out the above, what about your hands? How do they
work?
This question does not have a definite answer either.
If you try putting with your left hand only, you will almost certainly be
surprised by how many puts you hole in this manner.
Now try with your right hand only.
Is it as good or better?
This will probably give you a clue about which hand to concentrate
on.
Use this hand to hit or push to the hole and the other as a
guide only.
An embellishment is the use of the right forefinger.
It is hooked round the shaft like a trigger.
Be conscious of using some pressure
from this finger during the put and use it to direct the put and to
control your stroke force.
You will find you are developing a deal of touch
if your persist using your right index finger in this
manner.
