Olympique Lyonnais have presented the most sustained challenge to the hegemony of Paris Saint Germain in this season’s Ligue 1, and, along with Monaco and Marseille, are one of the recent powerhouses of French football. Lyon have done this with an interesting approach to player recruitment, marrying astute, inexpensive signings with a superb academy system, and their attractive style of football wins as many plaudits as their business sense.

About Tifo Football:
Informative, illustrated football analysis. Home of WhiteboardFootball®.

Tifo loves football. We know there’s an appetite for thoughtful, intelligent content, for stuff that makes the complicated simple.

Our illustrated and live action YouTube videos address all aspects of the game, including tactics, history, and the business of football.

We provide analysis on the Premier League, Champions League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, World Cup and more.

Our podcasts interview some of the game’s leading figures. And our editorial covers football with depth and insight.

Tifo Football used to be uMAXit Football – we changed our name in November 2017 to better articulate who we are and what matters to us: making football accessible to its fans through story-telling and the expertise and insight of our team of writers and producers.

Tifo was nominated by the Football Supporters’ Federation for the ‘Best Online Media’ Award in 2017 and 2018.

We also make bespoke videos.

  1. Lyonnais got through to the champions league semi final with a few signings they will dominate europe and ligue 1 but lyonnais was very unlucky to not go to the finals they are a very strong side

  2. wtf this is exactly how I played with lyon in football manager, the 4-3-1-2 and 4-3-3 with exactly the same lineup and I don't know anything about real life lyon lol, still couldn't beat psg though

  3. this is truly great stuff! there's only one thing missing i think im just curious if you could show brief evidence from games of players using these schemes so that viewers can see and understand how it works in a real game

  4. I’ve played and watch football my whole life… but my knowledge for the game has double in the past 3 days binging you’re videos. Here in the states we don’t get this type of analysis on T.V. This would help anyone enjoy this complex but beautiful sport even more.

  5. Love the content guys. I’ve just come across a nostalgic post on insta about the 08/09 United team. Would like to see an in depth look about how fergie fit Rooney, Ronaldo, Giggs, Tevez & Berbatov all into the same team.

  6. Lyon always feel like they're gelling and might challenge for the title the next. Then they happily sold their players and bringing up and developing new stars seemingly without losing a beat. This will then be another season of developing and gelling. I know the money is put to use to pay back the club-owned stadium but damn man, this is a constant never-ending carousel. Now Fekir might leave (as a Chelsea fan I fucking hate that he's being linked to Liverpool.) which is a sad thing. He might be the last big talent from that generation at Lyon: Lacazette, Fekir, Umtiti, Tolisso, Gonalons and Grenier. Lopes and Ferri are still around, but they're not on the same level as those guys.

Let's see how they manage their next generation. If we exclude signings (Ndombele, Tousart, Traoré, Depay…), then we have Aouar, Diakhaby, Gouri and maybe a few others.)

English is not my first language so…sorry if this comment is difficult to understand.
