SURPRISE MOVE: Battle for Ligue 1 forward, Transfer revelation, Signing for PSV winger

Man Utd Round-Up: Battle for Ligue 1 forward, Transfer revelation, Battle for PSV winger

The 22-year-old who has been linked with a switch to Arsenal and Man Utd has been in fine form for his French giants during the 2022-23 season, finding the back of the net nine times in 11 Ligue 1 games, in addition to providing two assists.

Since arriving at Lille from Belgian outfit, Gent back in 2020, the forward has found the back of the net 41 times and provided seven assists in 107 games, with his form leading to a host of transfer rumors.

Arsenal and Man Utd were among the team to be linked with the forward over the recent transfer window, however, the deadline passed with him still remaining Lille’s player.

Lille have David on a deal until the summer of 2025, however, they could struggle to keep hold of him next summer if he continues his excellent form.

The striker also has an impressive scoring record for Canada, scoring 20 goals in 30 games for his national team, which will be present at the 2022 World Cup.

Canada will open their tournament against Belgium on November 23 before also taking on Croatia and Morocco in the group stage of the competition, with David set to be a key player for the Reds.

According to TodoFichajes, La Liga giants, Real Madrid are looking to bring David to Bernabeu next summer and are ready to pay €60m (£51.7m) for his signature.

The agent of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has played down rumours that the Nigeria international could depart from the Serie A giants in the near future.

The 23-year-old striker has impressed for the West London giants since making the move from Lille back in 2020, representing the team on 70 occasions in all competitions, scoring 32 goals and providing 10 assists in the process.

Last term, the forward found the back of the net 18 times and provided six assists in 32 games, and there was a host of rumours surrounding his future during the summer window.

Arsenal and Man Utd were both strongly rumored with the Nigerian, and it is believed that the Premier League giants remain interested in signing him.

However, Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda has claimed that his client was never close to departing from Napoli despite interest from Arsenal and Man Utd.

“We haven’t found out now that Osimhen is the subject of interest from so many teams, but things are done in three: who sells, who buys and the player,” Calenda told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“I was immediately clear this summer because I knew there would be a lot of news coming out from those who had other interests perhaps. But I, the boy and Napoli had very clear ideas.

“Whoever talked about a departure made a mistake. It was Victor’s will to stay at Napoli and play the Champions League that he won entry to last year together with his teammates. Victor wanted exactly that, to have a great year with Napoli, between the league and the Champions League.

“He has a long contract with the Azzurri. The market is dynamic, but our will is to continue at Napoli and continue to do well.”

Serie A giants AC Milan have reportedly identified PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo as a potential transfer target for 2023.

Throughout the summer window, Gakpo was strongly linked with a departure from his current Dutch team, only for none of the interested teams to meet his valuation.

Despite the distractions, the 23-year-old has still been able to put together a productive start to the current campaign, scoring 13 goals and providing 11 assists from just 18 games in all competitions.

While there is still over three-and-a-half years left on his current deal, PSV are believed to be open to a sale in a future transfer window if their price tag is met.

Gakpo has previously acknowledged that he had been ready to sign for Man United, while team director John de Jong backed up those comments by claiming that Eredivise giants, PSV believed to lose their most prized asset.

Speaking to Voetbal International, De Jong said: “Manchester United signed up at the beginning of the transfer period. They expressed their interest. But after that, it took a long time.”

Although the Red Devils appear ready to make a fresh approach during 2023, Fichajes reports that AC Milan are among three teams who are ready to launch rival bids.

The report suggests that last season’s Serie A winners may be prepared to make their move during the winter transfer window in an effort to see off rival interest.
