Chelsea in talks to agree deal for Ligue 1 in-demand playmaker
Highly-regarded Paris Saint-Germain youngster Ismael Gharbi is out of contract in June and both Chelsea and Liverpool are among the sides interested in bringing in the player.
The 17-year-old midfielder made his professional debut for Les Parisiens this season and has spent plenty of time with the senior roster, although the teenager’s involvement has ebbed away in the latest months.
This has put his long-term future in serious doubt, particularly with his deal set to end this summer and no agreement reached yet.
Goal state that Gharbi wants to remain in Paris, but would need some assurances regarding playing time, which could be hard to come by with boss Mauricio Pochettino facing an uncertain future at the club.
The report states that the Blues and the Reds would be keen to bring Ismael to the PL, taking advantage of the current situation, although it is unlikely he’d be guaranteed a lot of senior team football at Stamford Bridge or Anfield.
He is described as an attacking midfielder, while his former boss Guillaume Serra told RMC, via Goal:
‘He is capable of playing in the middle, but also out wide where he can then drift towards goal. He has a keen sense of when faced with the goal, too.
‘But he also has a lot of room for improvement in positional play and transition phases.’
