Liverpool, Arsenal and Barcelona have all been asked to stump up a transfer fee of nearly €35m for Lille midfielder Renato Sanches. Portugal international has done exceedingly well to resurrect his career over the past two campaigns after a torrid spell with Bayern Munich.
Sanches was one of the crucial components of Les Dogues that pulled off a surprise Ligue 1 trophy win during the 2020/21 season, following which the midfielder impressed with the Portuguese national team at the UEFA Euro 2020 as well.
As a result, Renato’s stock has been on the rise, with several top teams around Europe taking note of his fine form. And, as per the report, Barcelona, along with the PL duo of Arsenal and Liverpool have already lodged enquiries with the French club for the Portuguese midfielder.
As for the Reds, the need for a new midfielder arises from the departure of Gini Wijnaldum. Wijnaldum left Anfield for PSG earlier this transfer window on a free transfer, leaving a massive void in the middle of the park.
With neither Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain proving to be reliable options, a new midfielder becomes a necessity for the German manager. A move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez has been mooted heavily, but Renato, too, has been touted as a transfer target for Liverpool.
