There is a wave of American-owned clubs in Serie A currently. Roma, AC Milan, Fiorentina, Parma, Spezia, Bologna, and Venezia are all under American or Canadian control, that’s more than a quarter of the league clubs.
Why do they want Italian clubs? Why are the Italian federations letting them? And is it working out for them?
Seb Stafford-Bloor writes, Henry Cooke illustrates.

Thanks to those that pointed out we have our billions and millions mixed up at 4:18!
Correction: In a 2021 Forbes list of the world’s most valuable clubs, no Italian side featured in the top-ten and Juventus, ranked 11th, were the only one to have a valuation in excess of $1bn. Even AC Milan ($559m) and Roma ($548m), one a multiple Champions League winner, the other a regular participant, were sandwiched between Everton ($658m) and West Ham ($508m).
Theyre buying football culture they don’t have, also theyre forcing their young players in those clubs…
I believe Hal Steinbrenner owns 25% of A.C. Milan; Not a controlling interest, but name an American family more closely associated with baseball ownership over the past half a century.
huge potential in italy, more and more stadiums are coming and it will help
Americans wont make Seria A good again cause they wont splash their own money…. so forget it
Who watches Italian football?Lol
To be fair…. Rocco Cammisso… hard to get more Italian than that name, seems like the cleaned up mafia is repurchasing their ancestral lands.
You can see that a lot of them are Italian Americans. Unlike Valencia which is going through an absolute nightmare with their owner that thinks the city and its people are peasants and has no idea of spanish culture.
โลกแห่งการซื้อตัว ผลงานดีย้ายทีมเสมอ รักษาอันดับยากมาก มีเงินซื้อคนเก่งได้ง่าย
ความนิยมคนดูทั่วโลก
Became a, now big, Roma fan after being stationed in Italy for a few years. Good times
Perfect thumbnail😂
Serie A has huge potential to be the beast league again or in top 3. but they have to build new infrastructure to let this happen
There is nothing worse than an American owner in Serie A…
To promote American socialist propaganda via football.
is it italian-americans who bought those teams…if it is….where are the coreleone family…?
Answer: Because it’s cheaper
This one is actually great and spot on something from many changes and difficulties financially
Great video🙏. I started watching your videos last year as a beginner before giving crypto trading a trial. I was able to make $17,300 in less than a week with the capital of $5,500 trading with an experience expert Stella Louis who guided me through out my trading.
And genoa
AC Milan was sold a month ago for 1.3 Billion Euros
A bunch of American's claiming to be Italian, yet when they get there they realise they are not so Italian. Who would of thought it? 🤣
The way Americans view sport is sad, there is no soul in American sports and soon they will make football the same everywhere, I hope not
americans have no clue how sports work
burning money would make more sense than investing in the serie a 😀
It's insane to me that the New York Islanders are valued higher than Inter Milan.
Commisso will never sell fiorentina he likes the city the club the fans he still alot to offer its not a over night job it will take time and serie a will see good times ahead of them
chicago fire 320M…what in the world is that lol
money laundry ?
Watch out for those crazy canucks 🇨🇦
Ronaldo leaving put serie a back on factory settings it’s a lame league with no exciting talent
should be made illegal this overseas "take-over"
It's not been a runaway success certainly. The American owners at Roma and Milan invest nowhere enough to be able to compete with Inter for example. No progress on stadium projects either, just announcements without time frame.
Across Europe Liverpool are possibly the best-run among the US-owned clubs while Man Utd and Arsenal have flopped dramatically under American owners. Even there FSG is not quite willing to invest as much as Abu Dhabi or Abramovich do.
We like pizza and pasta, simple.
Italian-Americans buying Italian Teams…. I'm pretty sure y'all know what type of organization the Italian-Americans are in.
The question is, why are Italian clubs struggling to where 67% only costs 60million…. we got sports stars that can buy that club….
mafia
Why only Juventus has a stadium of its own. This is why they called them mafia.
It's a worrying trend in all leagues, and with Super Leagues and changes to the World Cup touted, the Americans are clearly moving towards something. Its basically the only market they haven't owned till now.
I fear for the future of football as we know it.
Scotland's got the same with American owners, buying clubs due to ancestors from Scotland and importing American commercial ideas.
6 of whom are now looking to expand the income of the league as a whole. A video about this would be cool
They are investing in football clubs just to make money. Its just another business/investment for them. They dont care about the history, city or fans. They just want to make their pockets bigger and fuller.SerieA championship clubs and big clubs of PL.Its sad to see all this. With more American influence on football the more our beautiful game loses its beauty.Wanting a super league, frequent international tournaments, having a salary cap and other american sports related bs.Absolutely hate this.
The inflated market elsewhere does not necessarily means quality at large. It is more about having depth in the bench to facs the many dsmanding matches in the season. That is what hurts italian clubs facing an i ability to compete with inflated markets. Hope Milan under a low budget will become great again while re evaluing itself with great players like Theo, Tonali, Calabria, Brahim, Tomori, Leaõ among other prospects. Too bad Donnarumma left for free and hope he will regret it not winning anything at PSG while being benched
These guys ain't stupid there in a market with crazy billionaires they'll make money
I dunno cause the premiership is a rip off you tell me?
be careful for what you wish for. any time time investors take over the quality and character are over.
NEVER EVER LET ANYTHING BECOME TO BIG!!
Keep Americans out of our beautiful game!!! 🙏
To stop Chinese
These American companies are actually owned by none other than the Corleone family, that's why the immense interest in Italian clubs 😅
